Open Orifice Tooling are designed for industrial vacuum and pneumatic automation applications. The Squid® vacuum gripping tool has been developed to offer the vacuum user a universal end of arm vacuum tool. The Squid® vacuum gripping tool utilizes different “end effectors” such as vacuum cups, foam, orifice fittings and self closing valves.

Selection Guidance

Tooling selection should consider product dimensions, surface porosity, product spacing, allowable contact area, cycle time, robot payload and the amount of product variation. Self-closing valves are useful when portions of a gripper may remain uncovered, while open-orifice tooling is suited to applications where the product reliably covers the intended vacuum zones.

Self-closing valves automatically close uncovered vacuum points and are useful when product size or position varies. Open-orifice systems are simpler and work well when the load consistently covers the active gripping area.
