VACUFORCE SQUID® | MODULAR VACUUM EOAT

Vacuforce Squid® VFSQLT1560-OR — 6" × 24" Open-Orifice Vacuum Gripper

The VFSQLT1560-OR is a 144 × 576mm (nominal 6" × 24") modular robotic vacuum end-of-arm tool with 36 published cup-mounting positions and a restricted-orifice cup-port configuration. It is designed for carton handling, palletizing, packaging lines and multi-point automated picking where the vacuum layout must match the product.

How this configuration works

Restricted orifice fittings limit the airflow through uncovered cup positions. The vacuum source must be selected to accommodate the resulting controlled leakage while sealed cups maintain sufficient vacuum.

This model designates the gripper body and vacuum-control configuration. The cup-port count describes available mounting positions; it is not a statement that every position is supplied with a suction cup. Select the final cup type and quantity for the actual product geometry.

Why The Squid® Works for Mixed-Size Picks

A conventional fixed cup pattern can lose vacuum when a smaller carton covers only part of the tool. The Squid® platform can manage these open pickup points through restricted orifices or self-closing valves, depending on the expected leakage and vacuum source. Actual holding performance must be checked under the intended load, acceleration and surface conditions.

Choose the right air-leakage strategy

Open orifice (OR)

Controls leakage through uncovered cup ports; the vacuum source must handle that leakage.

Self-closing valves (VFSC)

Isolate open cup positions as airflow triggers the adjustable valves, preserving vacuum in sealed pickup zones.

Typical Applications

Robotic case picking and palletizing; end-of-line carton handling; corrugated packaging; slip sheets and panels; plastic-wrapped bales; multi-size pick-and-place; custom gantry or robot EOAT with distributed suction points.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is the VFSQLT1560-OR gripper?
The gripper body is 144 × 576mm, nominally 6" × 24". The model identifies the body family; the suffix identifies its vacuum-control version.
How many vacuum cup locations does VFSQLT1560-OR provide?
The published standard 6x24 body has 36 cup-mounting positions. This does not by itself verify the quantity of cups, valves or fittings shipped with the selected variant.
What is the difference between the OR and VFSC versions?
An OR version limits leakage at uncovered cups using restricted orifices. A VFSC version uses adjustable self-closing valves to isolate uncovered cups. The right choice depends on part coverage, porosity and available vacuum flow.
Can the same gripper pick cartons of different sizes?
Yes, with a properly selected restricted-orifice or self-closing-valve arrangement. The tool must maintain adequate vacuum when some pickup positions are uncovered, and each application should be tested.
Does this assembly include a vacuum generator?
Not by model designation. The Squid platform can be supplied from a vacuum pump, regenerative blower or air-driven Venturi generator. Size the source for cup leakage, response time and required vacuum.
Is the published cup count a rated lifting capacity?
No. Cup positions are connection locations, not a rated payload. Safe lifting depends on active sealed cups, working vacuum, surface porosity, gravity direction, acceleration, shear loads and the applied safety factor.
Can the robot mounting pattern and cup spacing be customized?
Vacuforce can engineer cup position, tool footprint, mounting pattern, vacuum port location and zoning around the product and robot. A custom build should be defined by application drawings.
Which details should I provide for selection?
Provide product dimensions, weight, surface material, orientation, cycle rate, robot model, vacuum source and the smallest and largest expected pick patterns.
