N2W500-50-24VDC | 2 NPT Brass Normally Closed Solenoid Valve

The Pneuforce N2W500-50-24VDC is a 2 NPT, two-way normally closed brass solenoid process valve for on/off control of compatible water, compressed air and vacuum lines. It has a 50 mm internal orifice (Cv 48) and a 24VDC coil.

Its mechanically coupled diaphragm operates with no minimum pressure differential across the valve, making the N2W series useful in low-pressure, gravity-fed and vacuum systems where some pilot-operated valves cannot function. The 24VDC version is rated to 120 psi (8 bar) gauge according to the series datasheet; confirm temperature, seal and flow requirements for the intended fluid.

How the Coupled-Diaphragm Valve Works

When power is removed from the 24VDC coil, the valve returns to its normally closed position and shuts off the process line. Energizing the coil lifts the coupled diaphragm to open the 50 mm flow path. Unlike a conventional pressure-assisted pilot valve, the mechanically linked diaphragm does not need inlet pressure to exceed outlet pressure by a set minimum.

This makes zero-differential operation useful on vacuum and low-static-head systems. The Cv value is an aid to flow sizing; it does not tell you the actual flow rate without the fluid properties, pressure drop and piping conditions.

Applications: Industrial, Commercial and Domestic

The 2 NPT connection and Cv 48 make this model a candidate for larger distribution headers, plant utility systems and engineered high-flow branches. These are application examples, not approvals for every medium or installation.

Industrial and OEM equipment

  • High-flow wash or rinse headers, plant utility-water distribution and large process-tank supply lines.
  • Industrial compressed-air or vacuum headers that require electrically commanded isolation.
  • Cooling-water skids and process-water transfer systems where flow capacity and shutoff duty are engineered.
  • Brass wetted construction suits many non-corrosive utility services; check water chemistry and seal compatibility.

Commercial and building services

  • Large commercial building services, plant-room non-potable water branches and cooling-system equipment.
  • Commercial irrigation, water-treatment infrastructure and large water-feature supply lines.
  • Suitable candidate for ordinary non-potable utility service where brass is acceptable.

Domestic and property maintenance

  • Occasional larger-property irrigation or rainwater-distribution systems, only where an appropriately sized valve is justified.
  • Not generally the first choice for a small domestic appliance or garden tap; check actual flow requirement.

Selecting the Right Valve for the Duty

Choose the 2 NPT thread to match the pipework, then size by required flow and pressure drop using Cv 48 rather than using nominal pipe size alone. Select the 24VDC coil for the available control supply. The valve is an on/off device, not a proportional flow-control valve.

The brass body and internals are a practical choice for many utility-water and compressed-air systems, but water chemistry, dezincification risk and seal compatibility must be checked.

Steam and temperature: The Pneuforce series datasheet lists steam as a working medium, but standard NBR seals are rated only to 176°F (80°C); optional Viton is listed to 248°F (120°C). These limits alone do not verify a specific steam duty. Confirm the installed seal, pressure, steam temperature and manufacturer approval before specifying steam service.

Installation and approvals: For water service, verify wetted-material compatibility and local plumbing requirements. Do not assume drinking-water, food-contact, fuel-gas or safety shutoff approval: no such certification is established by the series datasheet. Verify vacuum leak tightness where required, fit within operating ratings and use appropriate electrical protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is N2W500-50-24VDC suitable for zero-differential or low-pressure applications?

The coupled diaphragm is mechanically lifted by the solenoid, so the valve does not require a minimum pressure differential across its inlet and outlet. This is useful on low-pressure water feeds and vacuum lines, although flow still depends on the available head and piping.

Can N2W500-50-24VDC control vacuum as well as compressed air?

The series is designed for zero-differential operation, including vacuum duty. Confirm the actual vacuum level, seal condition, leakage requirement and installation conditions; the datasheet does not provide a quantified vacuum leak-rate guarantee.

Can I install this 2 NPT valve on a gravity-fed water tank?

Potentially yes: its coupled-diaphragm mechanism can actuate without the minimum inlet-to-outlet differential required by many pilot valves. The available water flow is still limited by tank head, pipe losses and the Cv rating; check plumbing suitability and avoid assuming potable-water approval.

Is the N2W500-50-24VDC suitable for steam?

Steam is listed among the series working media, but a standard NBR seal is limited to 176°F (80°C). The optional Viton specification extends to 248°F (120°C); temperature limits do not by themselves establish steam compatibility. Confirm the fitted seal and the exact steam temperature and pressure with the manufacturer before use.

What is the difference between 2 NPT ports and the 50 mm orifice?

2 NPT identifies the threaded pipe connection. The internal flow opening is 50 mm, and the published valve flow coefficient is Cv 48. Select the valve using the flow requirement and expected pressure drop, not the thread size alone.

What happens to N2W500-50-24VDC if the 24VDC power supply fails?

This is a normally closed valve: when the 24VDC coil is de-energized, it returns to the closed position. It is intended for ordinary process isolation, not as a certified emergency or fuel-gas safety shutoff.

What industrial and commercial systems commonly use a 2 NPT valve?

Examples include larger distribution headers, plant utility systems and engineered high-flow branches, provided the required Cv, media compatibility, temperature, operating pressure and electrical requirements are satisfied.

Why select the N2W brass series rather than N2S stainless steel?

N2W offers brass wetted construction for general utility-fluid and air service; N2S is the stainless steel alternative for applications needing greater corrosion resistance. Confirm water chemistry, fluid temperature and seal compatibility before choosing.

Is brass appropriate for process water and drinking water?

Brass is commonly used for general-purpose utility water, but water chemistry and corrosion must be considered. No NSF/ANSI 61 or other potable-water certification has been established for this product, so it must not be assumed suitable for drinking-water supply.

Is the 24VDC coil supplied with a connector, and can it remain energized?

The series datasheet specifies a Form A DIN connector and continuous-duty coil. This complete valve includes the matching DIN connector. Apply 24VDC only, provide appropriate wiring protection, and follow the installation instructions; coil heating during sustained use can be normal.
